TGIF!! Hope everyone had a wonderful week! Today I’m sharing a a DIY project for someone special in your life who lives far from you. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, this would make a perfect gift for a friend, family member or significant other.
My older sister lives in Boston and while I would love for her and her husband to move back to Chicago, I know they couldn’t be happier where they are, plus it makes for a great excuse to visit Boston more often! I miss her a ton and even though we talk often, we always seem to have so much to catch up on that I neglect to take the opportunity to remind her how much I miss her, love her and appreciate her.
When I saw this idea on Pinterest from Funky Time, I immediately thought of doing it for my sister! It looked like a fun and thoughtful gift and I was so excited to actually try a project I pinned! However, in true scatterbrain style, this was about a year ago when I saw this and purchased the materials:/ Somehow I managed to hide the mugs in the back of my closet and completely forget about the whole thing until I did some much needed cleaning out a couple weeks ago <sigh>. While I don’t think you need an occasion to make this for someone, I thought it was fitting to get in the spirit and send it for Valentine’s Day along with a card and Starbucks gift card:)
This was a fun and fairly simple project. The mugs I purchased were from target along with the permanent markers and double-sided tape. “Blank Outline State Maps” has you covered for your state stencils, you will just need to adjust the size to fit your mug (I had to print out a couple to get the size just right). Once you are done tracing, you will want to put the mugs in a cool oven and set the temperature to 350 degrees fahrenheit for 30 minutes. Allow to cool for 1 hr. Once cooled, pack up your state (maybe fill it with the recipient’s favorite candy or a gift card) and ship it off!
Have you put your DIY skills to work this Valentine’s Day?
